Messy Chevron Pumpkin
I recently tried my hand at doing the "chevron painted pumpkin" that I've seen all over Pinterest lately and it was an adventure! Just to be fully honest, I was attempting this pumpkin painting alongside my 5 year old daughter who was doing her own rendition of a glitter glue and bead painted pumpkin. Could I have been distracted a bit from my own pumpkin project? Slightly. To say the least! I lost track of exactly how many times I stopped to retrieve wet paper towels to wipe up drippy glitter glue!
So let me re-trace my project steps amidst the glitter glue drippage. Taping the pumpkin with masking tape (painters tape would also work just as well) was my first step and the most time consuming. I tried for a true chevron-looking pattern, but before I knew it, I had happened upon what I am calling, "messy chevron".
Then I mixed my red Martha Stewart glitter from Michaels into some red acrylic paint and glossy Modge-Podge. I had intended that the red glitter would just shine and sparkle, but do to adding the red paint in the mixture, it sadly did not display the sparkle I had hoped for. Omitting the paint color will be in my plan for next time. Just colored glitter and Modge-Podge - that should do the trick! Ok, so I just applied my mixture onto the pumpkin with a sponge brush and coated it a few times to really press in the layers of color. This part of the painting needs to be done with a bit of quick finesse, so that the tape can be removed while the paint is still tacky.
Alas, I did not remove the tape as quickly as I should have on my pumpkin (emptying the dishwasher suddenly seemed to take precedence). So, I actually ending up scoring the edges of the tape with sharp scissors prior to peeling (a knife, perhaps would have been more ideal). Because of the scoring required, so as not to destroy the complete look of my "messy chevron", I ended up doing some painting repair after all the tape was off. I wanted to tidy up the sharpness of the chevron lines and such. It spruced up nicely and ended up being a delight of a pumpkin that I proudly have on display!

Candy Corn Wreath
I just adore fall time! The change in seasonal colors and the crispness in the air - it brings a smile to my face! All my fall decor is out and about and I'm still loving my candy corn wreath! I made this when it was on the cover of Woman's Day magazine two years ago, but with yellow and orange as the accent colors instead of black.
Just wrap a foam wreath with whatever duct tape color you choose, (I chose yellow) then hot glue on your candy corns in rows going back and forth. Add a ribbon bow and voila, you have a stunning fall decoration! Theses wreaths do great in storage as well - I just wrap mine in plastic grocery bags and store in a plastic bin.
